Lucknow: Renowned Hindi poet and Ramayana exponent Dr Kumar Vishwas has received a special honour from the California Assembly in recognition of his contribution to Hindi literature and his efforts to take Indian culture and heritage to international audiences.
The California State Legislature presented him with a ‘Certificate of Recognition’, acknowledging his work in popularising Hindi poetry, Ram Katha and India’s cultural traditions across the world. The honour was conferred by Ash Kalra, a member of the California State Legislature and chairman of its Judiciary Committee.
The citation praised Vishwas for connecting audiences across different countries with Indian culture through his poetry and interpretations of episodes from the Ramayana. It also recognised his efforts to preserve India’s cultural heritage and bring the literary richness of South Asian languages to the international stage.
During his ongoing US tour, Vishwas has been presenting his popular programme, Apne Apne Ram, in several major American cities. Events in Chicago, New Jersey and San Francisco have drawn large audiences, including members of the Indian diaspora as well as American and other international listeners. He is also scheduled to present the Ram Katha in Dallas.
A notable aspect of these gatherings has been the growing interest among non-Indian audiences in the life of Lord Ram, his ideals and the values reflected in Indian traditions. Through his presentations, Vishwas connects episodes from the Ramayana with contemporary life, making the ancient narrative accessible to younger generations and audiences from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Vishwas has also attracted attention for writing lyrics for the upcoming big-budget film Ramayana. Songs from the film have generated considerable discussion on social media, with listeners appreciating the language, emotional depth and literary quality of the lyrics.
